Marc is easy-going and spontaneous. Last year on a road trip to visit family, our car broke down. Marc seemed to have prepared for this moment his entire life. "Let's take the train!" he said, having enjoyed train rides as a child with his family. Propping our feet on the empty seats in front of us, we rode the rest of the way in peace, and I read a book while Marc drew in his sketchbook.
One of Marc's favorite pastimes is making me laugh, even if it means ruining his reputation for being reserved. Recently at a youth Halloween dance, tired of being the "boring chaperone," Marc dashed out onto the dance floor. He was wearing his blue M&M costume (which I had sewn to match my red one) and began busting out moves no one knew he had. The song: Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. There is never a dull moment!
Marc is the most creative person I know, even when it comes to looking after our 40 nieces and nephews. His effect on these bouncing-off-the-walls boys and girls is unmatched. They crowd around and climb on his lap and plead, "Tell us a story!" Then they settle in, still as stones, while Marc transports them into undiscovered fairytale lands where the grass is made of jello and drinking fountains flow with strawberry milkshake.
