Megan has a heart like no one I've ever known. I love watching the way she loves the youth she works with at church, and other little things, like how she cares for our recently-adopted kitten. She fell instantly in love with a little apricot-colored kitten at the animal shelter as he pawed gently at her through his cage. And though Einstein likes to spill his water bowl, or slide across the kitchen table, she can't resist the little guy, especially when he curls up around her neck and purrs until he falls into a deep sleep.
Megan is fun, too. I remember a time beach camping last summer when, as we climbed into our tent, we realized we'd forgotten the board games. On the spot Megan devised all sorts of amusing games that left us laughing until our sides ached. Some might call it poor planning; I call it a chance to see Megan's creativity in action.
It's spring again, and Megan spent an afternoon with our seven-year-old nephew planting bulbs in the flower garden. They worked side-by-side digging the holes and placing the bulbs. As he vigorously stomps the dirt back into place, he pauses, turns to Megan and, squinting from the sun, says, "I love planting things. It makes for good quality family time." He's generally precocious like that, but his comment reflects Megan's pleasure in ordinary and simple moments, especially when spending time with children.
